This week we will start making things for the Christmas Fair and prepare for our St Andrew's Day Festivities. Look out for this year's competition !

Homework

This week's spelling words will come in 2 forms to suit most children.

When you are writing your sentences, try to use interesing words.  Why not write a question sentence or an exclamation sentence ?  We know when  to use . ? and ! Split longer words into syllables to make them easier to spell correctly.

Well done to all P2 children who have sent messages on the Guestbook. Check in case there is a message from your teachers.

 NEWSFLASH!

P2 Dinosaur Museum Open Today!

We had a dinosaur museum in the Primary Two open area today.  We invited the whole school to come and visit.  They got to hold and look at lots of interesting fossils.  There was also a woolly mammoth bone and even some fossilised dinosaur poo! They got to try and dig for fossils.  Lastly they were asked to sign the visitor book.  Their comments were fantastic.  They all had a good time and learned lots from our museum.

A huge thank you to Dougie's mum and dad for bringing in lots of amazing fossils for us to look at and share.

Maths Homework

Miss Walker is working on Months of the Year this week so remember to bring your sheet back on Monday with all your special days on it.

Dinosaurs

At last we are starting our Dinosaurs Topic. We are going to the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery on Tuesday 1st December for a special workshop. We will need some parents  and grandparents to help with this trip. If you are available, please contact the school office or write a note to any teacher.

Dinosaurs are often in the news, so keep your eyes peeled and bring in any information you find !

October Update

Bathgate Lizzie Week

It was a short but busy week for P2 children.  It was lovely being back in school after the October break and seeing our friends and teachers again.

We were learning about Westlothiana Lizziae, a lizard-like creature, which lived in the area about 340 million years ago ! We made 'fossils' from clay and drew detailed pictures of Lizzie and her habitat, then wrote newspaper items about the day Lizzie was discovered. We also made a list of questions to ask an expert.

On Friday we had some Hallowe'en fun 'dooking' for apples and listening to spooky stories.

Darwin Week

Last term flew past, finishing with a wonderful Darwin Week. We learned about Charles Darwin and his adventures.  P2's were  Darwin's Look Outs and were being scientists ! We  brought gardening clothes to school and were outside everything day collecting specimens, writing notes and finding out about plants and animals. We wrote fantastic poems about the colourful leaves we found. We walked up to Hope Park Bing ( Easton Bing) and could see the school far beneath us. Thank you to the Mums and Grandads who came with us at short notice.  On the Eco Action Day we had a visit from a lady from Beecraigs who brought mini- beasts to show us. After studying them, we released them  at Olivia's Worm House. You might have spotted some of us featured in the local paper ! Every child in the school planted a bulb so we hope we have a good display in the spring.

Week Beginning 12th October

Homework

As you can see, the spelling list is on the website - just in case it does not make it home ! The spelling lesson is taught on Mondays in school. We will also be adding suggestions for Maths practice at home each week.

Practise counting to 100 in tens and fives.  Play Snakes and Ladders with your family. This is good practice for recognising numbers and adding on. You could guess where you would end up, then check by counting on. Best of all, you will have good fun with your family.

It was great to meet so many mums and dads at Parent's Night.  Thank you for coming and please remember if you have any questions just drop us a note.

!Remember to bring wellies and 'gardening' clothes this week!

We are going to be very busy helping to improve our school grounds this week.  We will also be getting the chance to be nature detectives during our Kew Gardens topic.  We will be finding out about Darwin, the scientist, singing a song about him, then sharing what we have discovered with the rest of the school on Friday.

P2 Competition

Drawings of the teachers for the website

We are extending the closing date of this competition to Friday 16th October.

Entries must be drawings of individual P2 teachers rather than all together - although we have enjoyed seeing these too !

 Competition

As you can see, we still do not have a picture of Miss Walker. We are going to have a competition to draw brand new pictures of each P2 teacher.

Closing date for entries is Tuesday 13th October.

The winning pictures will be posted on the website.

.Week beginning 5th October

This is going to be an exciting week for P2 children with a bit of a mystery to start with. During Book Week, we will be reading a novel and we know most of our work will be based on it but what is it ?????? We have also to bring in a small box, some string or rope and some leaves and twigs ! What can we be doing ???????

Our Families Topic is now finished and the Museum is cleared away. Thanks to everyone who helped with it. When we talked about it on Friday, some of us thought the best bit was the visit to the Bennie Museum. Others enjoyed the  craft day, bringing items from home to talk about, making bread and the christening party. We certainly learned a lot about what went on in the past.

On Thursday 8th our teachers will meet our parents to report back on how we have been doing at school in P2 so far. We have been working hard, trying our best and behaving well so there should be lots of happy parents. Remember Friday 12th is a dress down day to raise money for our school grounds.

Message from Mrs Wyroslawska

Thank you to all P2 children for your super snakey singing  at the Snakes Story Surprise Launch on Thursday 24th September.

Thank you to everyone who helped with making badges, home baking, decorating the library area and organising the books.

Week Beginning 7th September

This week in PE we have been learning to play badminton with balloons.  We had lots of fun passing the balloon to our partner.

We are all really looking forward to our trip to the Bennie Museum next Thursday.  Please remember to wear comfortable shoes and a waterproof jacket.  After our trip to the museum we are going to have a busy afternoon trying out lots of traditional crafts.  Children will have the chance to knit, sew on a button and even make lemonade!  It's going to be a fun day.

We have been busy writing invitations to the launch party of Snakes Story Surprise on the 24th.  We are looking forward to meeting lots of mums, dads and grandparents.  There will be coffee, tea and delicious home baking on sale for £1.50.  Snake badges will also be on sale for 50p.  All the money raised will go towards buying new books for our snake story box.

Week Beginning 31st August

This week we will be writing stories about someone in our family.  We will be remembering to use capital letters and full stops to mark our sentences.  We will be continuing to join letters in handwriting.  We are very pleased with our neat handwriting!

We have also been playing games in class to match names of baby animals to the mum and dad.  For example if you were the calf you had to find the bull and the cow.  We had lots of fun finding our family!!

We will be measuring lots of things around the classroom in maths and looking at how much change we'd get if we were at the shops.

Lots of girls and boys have been bringing objects from the 'olden days' in to show us.  Thank you very much.  Our museum is looking super!

A letter will be going home this week about parent's consultations so please remember to check school bags.

Week Beginning 24th August 2009

This week we have been learning to join some of our letters in handwriting.  We think our work was very neat.

We have also started our project.  We will be looking at families in the past.  We are looking forward to doing detailed drawings of different objects which families used in the past.

A note from Rhiann and Nicole

"Mrs Wyroslawska set up a place to get your photograph taken and Mrs Robertson took our photograph.  We couldn't blink, move or smile.  These are like old fashioned photographs.  It was lots of fun."

We already have lots of lost property.  Please check that your child's name is on cardigans and jackets.  Thank you.

Week Beginning 17th August 2009

Welcome back!

It's lovely to see all of the children back to school looking so well.  We hope you have had a super summer.  In the P2 area we have set up lots of seaside activities.  We have made postcards all about what we did over the summer holidays and have been learning how to write an address.  We have been busy making colourful paper balloons.  Every week one child's balloon will be chosen and that child will be special person of the week.  This will start next week.

There are lots of letters going home at the moment so please remind your child to check their schoolbag every day
